Kolkata, Darjeeling, Digha, Santiniketan or Sundarban are the places every body knows, now I’ll tell you something little different. Today I’m here to tell you something you might not know about West Bengal. As a representative of West Bengal I’ll try to share my experience and knowledge with you.

  • Bagora

Bagora is a very Unknown destinations of West Bengal. Bagora is situated in Darjeeling district and only 17 K.M. away from Kurseong and only 60 K.M from Siliguri. Approx 7150 Feet High from the sea level it’s a perfect destination for light trekkers, bird watchers and also families who love to explore lonely places. Surrounded by lush green forest Bagora is home of variety of Himalayan birds and paradise for bird watchers. 

What to See –

Bagora is also known as Zero point and a Base Camp of Indian Air Force with a Helipad. The way to the helipad is just awesome and the view fro Zero point of Mount Kanchenjunga and River Tista in one frame will remain forever in your memory. You can visit Tiger hill for beautiful sunrise and also can visit Mongpu.

How To Go – 

on the way to Darjeeling from Kurseong a small point is Dilaram which is only 3.5 K.M away from Bagora. Bagora is only 60 K.M from Siliguri but local transport system is not fully dependable so hiring a cab will be a good option.

Where to Stay –

There is only one home stays  for accommodation with basic facilities like clean and hygienic rooms, tasty home made food, running water. Accommodation will not an issue at Bagora if you book in well advance.

When to Visit –

Bagora can be visited through out the year but October to April is the best time to visit.

  • Henrey Island

Henrey Island is also a Unknown Destinations of West Bengal. Henrey Island is situated in South 24 Parganas district and only 110 K.M. away from Kolkata and only 6 K.M from Bakkhali. Henrey Island is a very beautiful and lesser known Sea Beach in Southern Part of west Bengal. This place is a part of Sundarban Tiger reserve and surrounded by mangrove forest. beautiful sea beach and calm peaceful location is the main attraction. This place is also a good birding hot spot for coastal birds.

What to See –

Main attraction of Henrey Island is the beautiful sea beach. This place is very near to Bakkhali a very popular beach. You can also visit Frasergunj and Jammudwip. The beach of Henrey Island is full of Red Crabs and Coastal Birds, you can spend time only by watching their activities.

How To Go –

On the way to Bakkhali from Kolkata a small point is Jetty Ghat which is only 5 K.M away from henrey Island. Henrey Island is only approx 100 K.M from Kolkata but only Two buses are there directly from Kolkata or you have to go to Namkhana by local train from there cross the Hatania Dobania River and again have to take a bus to Jetty Ghat so not fully dependable so hiring a cab will be a good option.

Where to Stay –

There is only one option for accommodation run by Fisheries Department with basic facilities like clean and hygienic rooms, tasty home made food, running water. Accommodation will not an issue at Henrey Island if you book in well advance otherwise you have to stay at Bakkhali.
